Sulzer has signed a five-year customer service agreement (CSA) with PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE), the geothermal energy subsidiary of Indonesia’s state-owned Pertamina.
The agreement will support energy security and transition for the country’s growing population. As a clean and renewable resource, geothermal energy production reduces reliance on conventional energy sources, lowers greenhouse gas emissions and provides a stable and sustainable source of energy. Sulzer will provide strategic maintenance support to all of PGE’s geothermal power plants to ensure their combined capacity of 330 MW – enough to power approximately 620,000 homes in a sustainable way.
The news comes as the nation continues to intensify its efforts towards achieving its 2060 net-zero emissions target, including the increase of renewable energy production and transitioning away from conventional energy sources. Located on the volcanically active Pacific Ring of Fire, Indonesia has vastly untapped geothermal energy reserves. PGE is playing a pivotal role in realizing this potential with a production capacity reaching 672.5 MW across the country. PGE’s plants are critical base loaders for the Indonesian power grid, providing essential production uptime and equipment reliability for a consistent and sustainable power supply.
Under the agreement, Sulzer’s scope of services will include repair technology, outage optimization, overhauls, rotor life extensions and technical advisory services to help PGE achieve its power capacity and supply targets.
