Sulzer Services (Indonesia), an independent service provider (ISP) and leader in flow control, has signed a five-year customer service agreement (CSA) with PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) (IDX: PGEO), the Geothermal specialist sub-holding of Indonesia state-owned Pertamina.
The contract, secured through a competitive tender, will see Sulzer provide strategic maintenance support for all five of PGE’s geothermal power plants in Indonesia which have a combined capacity of 330 MW. This will include repair technology and outage optimisation, major and minor overhauls, rotor life extension and technical advisory services for assets such as steam turbine, generator, pumps and motor, to support PGE in achieving its power capacity and supply reliability targets.
The news comes as the nation continues to intensify its efforts for Net Zero, including the increase of renewable energy production and transitioning away from conventional energy sources. Positioned on the volcanically active Pacific Ring of Fire, Indonesia has vastly untapped geothermal energy reserves. PGE is playing a pivotal role in realising this potential with five plants across the country. Each are critical base loaders for the Indonesian power grid, making production uptime and equipment reliability essential to consistent, sustainable power supply.
PGE’s Chief Executive Officer, Julfi Hadi said, “As a pioneer in advancing renewable energy in the region, this collaboration with Sulzer underlines our commitment to the growth of geothermal energy to support Indonesia’s decarbonisation goals and improve energy security. Through this partnership, we also aim to enhance operational excellence by integrating innovative solutions and best practices that increase efficiency, reliability, and sustainability across our geothermal operations. By continuously optimising our processes and leveraging cutting-edge technology, PGE is well-positioned to lead the way in providing clean energy while maintaining world-class standards in operational performance.”
“Equipment reliability is critical to the success of our plants and in Sulzer we have found a partner that champions innovation in services, with multiple technological differentiators. With our teams’ combined expertise and solutions, we are confident in our ability to maintain optimal performance and reliability of our geothermal power plants.”
This announcement builds on a long-term relationship between Sulzer and PGE, having partnered on maintenance projects with Sulzer providing services since 2011.
Joko Sutopo, President Director of Sulzer Services (Indonesia) added: “This agreement underscores PGE’s confidence in our competencies, track record, and overall service quality. This major win is testament to our team of turbomachinery specialists who service our in customers installations.
“With Indonesia’s 2060 net-zero emissions target, we are proud to support in making the energy transition a reality. Amid increasing electricity demand driven by industrial growth and rural electrification programmes in the region, we aim to ensure that PGE continues to be a source of reliable power supply to the communities and businesses they serve.”
