PRAGUE RING PROJECT
Amitech Germany, a member of the AMIANTIT Group, has been awarded a major con-tract concerning the supply of approximately 20 km FLOWTITE GRP pipes utilized for the drainage system of the new highway by-pass around Prague. This new highway is the most important project in this sector, not only in the Czech Republic but also in Central Europe. The entire pipeline length of the project is roughly 83km - as with many modern infrastructures, it contains several elevated roadways (about one third).
Elevated roadways have many advantages: no crossings, higher speed, the possibility of pedestrians and drivers crossing the highway. The drainage System necessary for this kind of road involves implementing dewatering pipes just below the deck which can be at heights of 20 to 60 meters.
To achieve this, AMITECH proposed a high-quality piping solution: FLOWTITE GRP (Glass-Fibre Reinforced Plastic) pipes offer outstanding chemical and mechanical properties and they are light weight: for example a 6m long DN-300 pipe weighs only 60 kg which makes installation and handling a lot easier. The piping system can be assembled using any standard lifting equipment and it needs only a relatively small group of workers to handle them.
Another great advantage of GRP pipes is their excellent corrosion resistance. This is a critical parameter: the environment along a highway is extremely corrosive because of exhaust gases and de-icing materials.
In addition, the smooth inner surface and excellent durability result in excellent flow characteristics and thus low maintenance costs.
The by-pass consists of 11 sections, four of which are existing roads. Sections 512, 513 and 514 will be completed in 2010. The final four sections will be finished in 2014.
The SOKP 514 construction Lahovice – Slivenec is one of the 11 sections of this project. It is 6.3 km long. The construction investor is Ředitelství silnic a dálnic ČR and the other suppliers are Sdružení firem Strabag a.s., Hochtief Construction AG and Bögl a Krýsl k.s.
VAO s.r.o., Liberec, is the supplier of drainage and sewer systems. The overall costs of this section are 342 M€.
FLOWTITE GRP pipes have been chosen not only for this section but also for other sections of the project (Nr. 512, 513) which include approximately 20 bridges that have to be equipped with pipes, i.e. 15 km of Flowtite GRP pipes with diameters from DN200 mm to DN500 mm.
