Danamon Donates Solar Panels to Education Community in Central Java to Support Carbon Emission Reduction & Sustainable Ecosystem Collaboration

Danamon held a solar panel handover event at the Fadhlul Fadhlan Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes), Semarang, as one of the Education communities that is Danamon's partner in this Sustainable Ecosystem Collaboration.

Herry Hykmanto, Director of Sharia and Sustainability Finance of PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk said, "As part of Danamon's Sustainable Ecosystem Campaign, we are committed to supporting sustainable business development with various initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions. This solar panel installation program not only helps meet electricity needs, but also contributes to protecting the environment."

Danamon continues to implement a series of initiatives to meet its carbon emission reduction commitment. This initiative is called Danamon's Sustainable Ecosystem Campaign which will start in 2023. This program includes various actions within the company, such as installing solar panels and LED lights, building electric vehicle charging stations (EV charging ), planting mangroves, and stimulating the use of sustainable products among employees.

" The best practices that we do at the internal level are used as a reference in developing CSR and business programs in various Danamon partner communities. One concrete form of this CSR program is the installation of solar panels to utilize renewable energy sources to meet electricity needs," said Herry.

Solar panels are seen as instruments that can produce clean energy because they have photovoltaic cell components that function to capture solar heat which can be converted into electrical energy. The use of solar panels is a clean step that does not produce carbon emissions, so it can minimize negative impacts on the environment and mitigate climate change which is very important to protect humans, wildlife, and ecosystems.

Meanwhile, the Paris Agreement United Nations Framework Convention related to climate change states that every country must contribute to reducing global warming and keeping the average temperature increase below 2° C. The Indonesian government is also committed to using clean energy of around 23% by 2025 and achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060. Therefore, the use of solar panels provides many economic benefits for its users, such as minimizing electricity bills, increasing property sales value, and having long durability.

Also attending the event were a number of Danamon officials, including Abdul Hadi, Sustainability Finance Head, PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk; Budhi Harsono, Regional Consumer Head of Bank Danamon Region Central Java; Catur Riahasni, Human Capital Manager of Bank Danamon Central Java, along with DR. KH Fadlolan Musyaffa', Lc., MA, founder and caretaker of Ponpes Fadhlul Fadhlan. In this event, Danamon donated a total of 18 units (8.8 kWp) of solar panels that can meet around 20%-30% of the school's electricity needs, and 12 Light Fire Extinguishers (APAR).

Still part of the effort to improve financial literacy among students, through Danamon Peduli, Danamon also held financial literacy, environmental literacy, and disaster literacy training for 270 students at Ponpes Fadhlul Fadhlan. This initiative is in accordance with Financial Services Authority Regulation Number 3 of 2023 concerning Increasing Financial Literacy and Inclusion in the Financial Services Sector for Consumers and the Community.

"Through this literacy program, we hope to provide a better understanding of the importance of finance and sustainability from an early age," added Herry.

A series of CSR programs on Danamon's 68th anniversary this year reflect Danamon's commitment to supporting green energy and environmental preservation in Indonesia. Through these initiatives, Danamon seeks to reduce its carbon footprint and make a positive contribution back to the community.
