Tata Steel is inviting visitors to put their experts to the test at Railtex to recommend routes to longer lasting rail
track systems.
Tata Steel has been manufacturing rails for over a century and has industry-leading expertise in track product design, performance and, importantly, how to select the optimum steel grade and rail section to improve the lifespan of the track system.
At Railtex, the company’s technical team will be offering their expertise on how to make the most efficient choice of rail for renewals and on the factors that affect the most effective maintenance strategy (grinding, lubrication etc). Visitors can either book ahead or go to the stand at the show and discuss challenges on specific projects or come for a masterclass in track products and their performance.
Mike Poulter, technical director commented, "Our technical team works with customers to understand the track specification and environment. Particularly where there are demanding conditions like curves & level crossings or heavy traffic conditions & high axle loads, that often result in faster degradation we advise on the rail that will last longer and require less maintenance."
Tata Steel is at the forefront of developing track systems and maintenance strategies that enhance rail life and reduce life cycle costs. At Railtex Tata Steel will showcase a range of rail products designed to excel in specific track conditions. High performance (HP) rail, for example, is designed for mixed traffic railways, metros, and larger radii curves. By precisely controlling the steel microstructure HP rail achieves ten times greater resistance to wear and 4 times greater resistance to rolling contact fatigue compared to 260 rail.
