Compact, rugged and reliable EN 50155 approved industrial Ethernet switches simplify onboard communications applications

Secure connectivity to mobile or remotely located Ethernet and RS-232 devices improves operational efficiency

Westermo announces the release of its Lynx DSS compact device server switch for connecting legacy serial control and telemetry systems to the latest IP networks. With low data rate serial communications being replaced by higher bandwidth IP networks, the Lynx DSS helps to preserve any investment in existing systems, add functionality by supporting new equipment that requires additional bandwidth, and ensures trouble free industrial communications for many years.

ABB FM (Force Measurement) is using Westermo’s Redfox industrial Ethernet switch with its latest version of Stressometer system for measurement and control of rolling mills. The implementation of the Redfox Industrial device has helped to reduce the number of data communication products needed from six to one, simplifying the system and lowering costs.

Westermo Data Communications have announced that many of its industrial communications products now comply with international industry specifications. The approvals, which include ATEX, DNV, Industrial IT, UL and CSA, have been applied to a range of Ethernet extenders, switches and media converters. The ATEX and DNV approvals enable the products to be applied in potentially explosive atmospheres and onboard marine vessels. The industrial IT approvals enable seamless integration with ABB products. The UL and CSA approvals enable the products to be used in North America and Canada.

Beijer Electronics has signed an agreement to acquire a majority of the Taiwanese technology and industrial data communications company Korenix Technology Co. Ltd. Together with Westermo, a world-leading offering in the business area Industrial Data Communications (IDC) is formed.

The Great Belt Fixed Link connects half of the Danish population with the rest of the European road and rail network. Approximately 11 million vehicles and 8,3 million train passengers cross the bridge each year. A new 2 x 1 Gbit/s fibre backbone network was recently installed to provide for all the data transmission from the weather stations and CCTV, and a new emergency phone system using IP telephony technology was installed. To provide the data communication between the telephone and the fibre backbone, the company A/S Storebælt has chosen the robust Westermo Wolverine Ethernet Extender.

Westermo announces the launch of the i-line family of Ethernet products optimized for machine building, building automation, factory automation and CCTV surveillance applications. The new range includes standard and compact Ethernet switches, media converters and Power over Ethernet (PoE) switches.

The new Falcon industrial broadband router with integrated Ethernet routing switch is designed to provide two-way high-speed secure communication between remote sites enabling economical and reliable connection to equipment such as SCADA, PLCs, RTUs and I/O devices.

Banverket and Bombardier have chosen WESTERMO DDW-225 Ethernet extender to equip a ERTMS Level 2 section of Swedish railway. It is the first Level 2 installation ever to include equipment such as crossing barriers. Further to reliability the DDW-225 has contributed to significant cost savings as new fibre installation could be avoided.
